Following the accident in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station in April 1986, most of the country
of Belarus is contaminated with radioactive elements
The Mid Surrey Link is part of a national charity called the "Chernobyl
Children Life Line". We bring groups of children from Belarus to the
Ashtead/Epsom/Leatherhead area in Surrey, providing them with a four-week
respite from the aftereffects of that accident.
This website shows you what we have done with groups of children in previous
years, and explains how you could help. Please see the section below for
further information.
Since the inception of the Mid Surrey Link we have hosted a total of 104
children in six summer visits and three Christmas visits. Additionally,
some of our hosts have invited children back for private repeat visits
at other times of year.
Our 2008 visit is now underway. We have welcomed a group of 16 children,
who you can see below and in other pages of photos on this site.
